Arriving aboard BC Ferries
Arriving aboard BC Ferries turn east onto Highway 20 (paved surface). You will drive approximately two and a half kilometres of winding highway along the tidal flats known locally as the Estuary, before coming to the village of Bella Coola. Continue on the highway another 7 kilometres. You will see the blue and white highway signs marking the turn-off to "Eagle Lodge". The driveway is immediately after that. If you miss it, don't worry, it's a pull through driveway and take the next one. You will see our sign on the front lawn.Arriving by Highway
From Williams Lake, you will drive west along Highway 20 across the spectacular Chilcotin. This is ranching country and you will see cows and horses grazing free range along the sides of the highways. You may even see a cattle drive in action. Modern ranchers supplement horse back trail riding with dogs and ATV's. Otherwise, it's just like in the movies. (Contact us for information on the Chilcotin portion of Highway 20)Dropping down through Heckman Pass (known locally as The HILL) you will pass through 5 distinct environments, or Eco-zones, from alpine meadow - moose and caribou country - to sea level, grizzly country. The HILL takes about 20 minutes to drive, the bottom third being the steepest with grades up to 18% and one section that is definitely single lane. Courtesy on the HILL asks that you always yield to the bigger trucks, pulling well over to the right and stopping.
Upon reaching the Valley floor, you are in the Coastal Temperate Rain Forest. Towering Douglas Fir, Spruce and Cedar shade the road. A kiosk at the bottom allows for convenient stopping for photo's.
Another 45 minutes west, you will pass through the village of Hagensborg, the original Norwegian Settlement dating back to the 1980's. You are almost there.
Just seven kilometres further, after passing the Seventh Day Adventist Church and School on your left, you will see the blue and white highway signs indicating our driveway, also on the left. If you're driving too fast and miss it, take the next driveway - it's a pull through.
Arriving by air
Arriving from the South Terminal aboard Pacific Coastal's airline, is very dramatic. The plane follows the contours of the valley, gliding down between glacier clad peaks. There's plenty of room, the valley is actually three miles wide at it's widest point, but it feels like the wings are almost brushing the steep mountain sides.Landing on the busy paved airstrip, the plane will taxi to a pleasant terminal building, You will disembark outside, immediately feeling the dense air from the Rainforest. If you have arranged a pick-up, we will be waiting in the lobby. If you're not sure who we are in the crowd, and can't see the sign, ask at the Pacific Coastal counter and they'll point us out. You are just three minutes down the road from the Lodge.
